April's Inspiration of the Month: Carla Hunt

"But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life, and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine." - Thomas Jefferson

We're excited to introduce Carla Hunt, our April Inspiration of the Month! Carla was born with a congenital heart defect that's imposed physical limitations her entire life. Despite this, she's the proud mother of four grown children and a Fortune 500 executive.

In 2010, Carla's heart defect was surgically repaired with a closure device. Her body rejected the device, causing extreme pain.

This past February, she again underwent extensive surgery. Doctors opened her heart and removed the rejected device. Using pig tissue, they built a new wall where the original defect was.

The surgeon assures Carla her heart is now healthy and strong. The doctors believe there will never be a need to operate on Carla's heart again. Once healing's complete, she'll no longer experience the physical limitations she's known her whole life.

Throughout, Carla was fortunate to lean on the generosity and love of her family and friends. And, she advocates Go Red for Women - part of the American Heart Association - which offers women support and resources related to heart disease.

Today's a big day for Carla as she begins cardiac rehab! We're honored to help her celebrate this next step, and the Heart Mini Charm she chose is a natural symbol. Carla further personalized her ESD Inspiration of the Month necklace by purchasing a custom mantra charm. It reads, "unbreakable," because she says "it inspires and fits the journey", and adding the Believe I Am Strong charm. We agree!

Carla's has set her sights on a goal: learn to run. "My spirit races and soon my heart and body will get in step, too. My dream is to complete a half marathon. I will train and accomplish something I could never do before. I will do it safely, and with a smile on my face."

Help us wish Carla well in this new phase of her life. She's one strong woman with a tenacious heart! Carla, #YouInspire!
