Applesauce Recipe

Last weekend I spent a stunning day at Warwick Valley Winery and Distiller. Apple picking, wine tasting, and picnicking surrounded by fall foliage.

I drove up to to Warwick with an incredible bunch of women, coincidentally all of whom are self employed! Chris (a jewelry designer), Miwa (a jewelry designer & website developer),  Natalie (a Registered Dietitian), and I shared great conversation, stories and advice on the way up and the way back. And of course, we discussed how one earth we were going to use up all of our beautiful apples! When I mentioned applesauce, Chris told me the special ingredient to her husband's applesauce recipe: almond extract. Have you ever tried it? So delicious!!!

Applesauce Recipe
8 large Apples, peeled, cored & cut into chunks
1/4 cup Brown Sugar
1 cup Water
1 tsp Almond Extract
1 Cinnamon Stick
freshly squeezed juice from half of a Lemon

Combine all ingredients in a medium pot and cover. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook for 20-30 minutes, until the apples are soft. Remove the cinnamon stick, and mash to your desired consistency. Try not to eat all in one sitting (ooops!).

  1. You look SO pretty in that picture!

  2. looks like a fantastic time! Your applesauce recipe sounds so easy I might just try it!

  3. ooh, what fun! I love outdoorsy adventures such as this! and with such an impressive bunch - even better. you've inspired me to make it out of the city sometime this fall and make it to an apple orchard. i haven't been in two years!

  4. I love making applesauce and if I start eating it warm you're "not all in one sitting" rule will be violated. I like keeping some of the skin on the apples/can give applesauce a nice color. Almond extract interesting, will try it out.

  5. I've never made applesauce but can't wait to try this recipe!! :)
